Russia recognized the independence and sovereignty of the DPR and LPR

It's worth reminding that earlier the heads of the DPR and LPR addressed the Russian president with a request to recognize the independence of their territories.

After the speech, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed decrees recognizing the LPR and the DPR. The members of the Security Council agreed on the need to recognize the independence of the LPR and the DPR, since Ukraine will not adhere to the Minsk agreements and negotiate with the leadership of the Donbass republics. The Russian president took a break and promised to announce his decision later today.

At nine o'clock in the evening, the president spoke by phone with French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. Vladimir Putin informed them about the results of the meeting of the Security Council. The President said that he was ready to sign a decree on its results in the near future. The President of France and the German Chancellor were disappointed by the president's message, but said they were ready to continue the dialogue, the Kremlin's press service reported.

Recognition of the independence of the republics by Russia will be the first step towards the recognition of the independence of these states by other countries, according to deputies from the Communist Party, who had previously applied to the president with a similar request. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz did not agree with this statement, who said that the recognition of the independence of the LPR and the DPR "would turn into a disaster".
