German Chancellor Olaf Scholz (pictured) announced the suspension of the certification of the Russian Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline against the backdrop of Moscow's recognition of the independence of the Luhansk and Donetsk People's Republics.

Scholz stated this during a press conference.

"Germany intends to diversify gas imports together with other European countries, and also continues to work on the development of renewable energy sources", - the German Chancellor answered the question about the country's dependence on gas from the Russian Federation.

Before that, during negotiations between US President Joe Biden and Scholz, the head of the White House said that he would “put an end” to the Russian Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline if Russian troops crossed the Ukrainian border.

Earlier, we recall, German Vice-Chancellor, Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection Robert Habek indicated that the commissioning of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline would increase Germany's dependence on Russian gas.
