The United States announced sanctions against the Russian Federation in connection with the recognition of the LPR and the DPR

According to RIA Novosti, citing representatives of the US administration, the document says that "American individuals and legal entities are not allowed to make new investments in the so-called DPR and LPR region, trade with it and finance it." In addition, the document defines the authority to impose measures also on any person acting "in these regions of Ukraine."

These actions were a response to the violation of international law, the "sovereignty" of Ukraine, the source stressed.

It should be reminded that Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the document recognizing the independence of both republics the night before after the meeting of the Security Council. After that, the permanent representatives of the European Union announced the beginning of the procedure for preparing targeted sanctions against Moscow on February 22, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that the country would remain within "internationally recognized borders."
