Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN), Stéphane Dujarric, said he considered unacceptable bilateral sanctions that could harm ordinary citizens.

Answering journalists' questions about sanctions against Russia, the representative of the UN Secretary General noted that he does not yet know how the sanctions campaign will affect the market for the supply of COVID-19 vaccines from Russia.

“Our principled position has always been that sanctions should not harm civilians. This is our position”, - RIA Novosti quotes Dujarric as saying.

Sanctions against Russia began to be introduced against the backdrop of a military special operation in Ukraine, which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24. Western countries accused the Russian Federation of an act of international military aggression against a neighboring state and announced the introduction of a package of tough economic measures against Russia.

The imposition of Western sanctions has led to the collapse of the ruble, the panic in the stock market, the mass closure of enterprises across the country and the alarming expectation of rising unemployment.

Experts fear that against the backdrop of sanctions in Russia, a shortage of vital medicines and goods may begin, which will inevitably affect the lives of ordinary citizens.
