The Liberal Democratic Party proposed to hold a referendum on the return of the death penalty

The LDPR faction in the State Duma proposed to put the issue of the return of the death penalty in the country to the next referendum, especially since the Russian Federation is leaving the Council of Europe.

"Russia is leaving the Council of Europe, which means that it is throwing off the shackles of values and rules that are alien to us. One of them is a ban on the death penalty, which is applied everywhere outside the European Union: in the United States, China, India, Japan, Egypt and 47 other states", - the faction said in a statement.

They pointed out that the citizens of Russia are quite mature to make such an important decision on their own.

Thus, it is planned to return the death penalty for the most serious and condemned by society crimes, including corruption on an especially large scale. Please note that this is the case in China.

According to deputy head of the faction Oleksiy Didenko, it is now necessary to collect 90 signatures from parliamentarians in order to submit a request to the Constitutional Court to verify the compliance of the abolition of the moratorium on the death penalty with the Constitution and international law, as well as to find out the position of the Duma factions.

At the same time, earlier the HRC pointed out the inadmissibility of the return of the death penalty. They consider the Russian justice system to be imperfect, and mistakes in making decisions on the death penalty can lead to the death of innocent citizens. Council member Kirill Kabanov believes that the moratorium on the death penalty is associated with the choice of the country, and not the restrictions of European bodies.
