The 76th Avignon Festival, which will be held this year from July 7 to 26, announced its program, writes the Theater magazine. The opening performance will be Kirill Serebrennikov's production of The Black Monk, which the director did for the Hamburg Thalia Theater with the participation of artists from the Gogol Center. The premiere took place in Hamburg on January 22 this year, and in September the performance is planned to be shown at the Gogol Center.
This is Serebrennikov's fourth performance in Avignon: in 2015, he showed Idiots here, in 2016 - Dead Souls, and in 2019 - Outside.
In total, as the program director of the festival, Olivier Pi, said, 42 performances “with the participation of Russian, American, French, Georgian, Lithuanian, Latvian, Armenian and Filipino artists” will be brought to the current festival.
