Since April 7, Sberbank, against the backdrop of Western sanctions imposed against it, has stopped all transfers abroad in foreign currency.

The ban applies to transfers at bank branches and in a mobile application, Kommersant reports.

“Transfers made from April 6 will be returned to the client’s account in full, together with a commission”, - a representative of RBC Bank quotes a statement.

At the same time, restrictions do not apply to ruble transfers. The bank's customers also retained the ability to transfer money in rubles to neighboring countries through a mobile application using a phone number.

Money can be sent to recipients in Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, as well as in Transnistria.

Western countries imposed economic sanctions against Russian banks after the start of the military special operation of the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine. It was announced on February 24 by Russian President Vladimir Putin. The fighting on the territory of the republic has been going on for almost a month and a half, and negotiations on a ceasefire have not yet been crowned with success.

Against the backdrop of hostilities and Western sanctions imposed against the Russian Federation, about 600 foreign enterprises have already announced the closure or suspension of business in the Russian Federation.

Since April 6, the US has imposed additional sanctions against Sberbank and Alfa-Bank. Their assets are spent, American companies are prohibited from doing business with sanctioned credit institutions of the Russian Federation.

On the eve it became known that the US authorities also plan to deprive tax benefits of companies that, despite the sanctions, continue to work with Russia.
