After counting 97% of the protocols, the current leader Emmanuel Macron retains leadership in the presidential elections in France - he is gaining 27.6% at this hour.

His closest rival, Marine Le Pen, leader of the right-wing National Rally party, gets 23.41%. In third place is the leader of the left - "Unsubdued France" - Jean-Luc Melanuchon with 21.95%.

Meanwhile, in the capital region of the country the first place went to Mélenchon, who does not qualify for the second round - 30.24%. Macron is in second place with 30.19%, Le Pen is in third with 12.97%.

In Paris, Macron leads with 35.33%, followed by Mélenchon with 30.09%, Eric Zemmour, the founder of the Revelation party, is in third place with 8.16 %, and Le Pen is only in fourth with 5.54%.

The second round of presidential elections is scheduled for April 24.
