According to Interfax, Putin sent a congratulatory telegram to Moscow's Spartak, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary on April 18.

“I congratulate the team and numerous fans on a significant date - the 100th anniversary of the Spartak football club. The history of one of the most famous and titled clubs in Russia is firmly connected with the development of football and the growth of its popularity, the formation of a mass physical culture movement in our country”, - the text of the telegram of the head of state quotes the publication.

As the President of the Russian Federation noted, there are many brilliant victories and records in the annals of Spartak.

“These outstanding achievements are our common pride and national treasure”, - reads a congratulatory telegram posted on the Kremlin website.

Earlier it was reported that on the eve of the centennial anniversary, Spartak updated its emblem. Now the line of the ball inscribed in the letter “C” is closed in it, which makes the image more solid. In addition, a special emblem is presented in honor of the centenary of the club. Its retro design refers to the historical left-to-right diagonal rhombus that Spartak had in the late 30s and early 40s. It was this diagonal that Nikolai Starostin, the author of the logo, came up with.

RPL and RFU also joined the congratulations to the country's most titled football club.

“Happy birthday Spartak! The Moscow club is 100 years old! Congratulations to all the “red-whites” on this holiday”, - the press service of the RFU wrote.

As Rossiyskaya Gazeta notes, on the day of the anniversary, the RFU recalled the main victories in the history of Spartak: 22 titles of the country's champions (12 - the USSR, 10 - Russia); 13 wins in the Cup (10 - USSR, 3 - Russia); one Super Bowl; millions of fans in the country.

Many fans and former players also sent their congratulations to the team, including the team captain in the 2016/17 championship season Denis Glushakov.

“Happy birthday, happy centenary. Big victories. We'll still win a trophy. Spartak is a great club”, - the player wrote.

It's worth reminding that the MKS team (Moscow Sports Club) played its first football match exactly 100 years ago - on April 18, 1922.
