The day before, the Montenegrin Foreign Ministry published on Twitter a statement by the head of the department, George Radulovic, about the need to break off diplomatic relations with Russia. But after a few hours, the post was deleted. The report said that Radulovic, during a meeting on the application of restrictive measures against Russia in connection with the conflict in Ukraine, stated the need for "State institutions of Montenegro to implement restrictive measures imposed by the government against Russia".
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the republic also published a list of measures introduced by the government, including "a severance of diplomatic relations, a complete or partial severance of economic relations, a complete or partial restriction of imports, exports, transit, transport and the provision of services and logistics, postal and other communications." It also listed "military embargo, restriction of entry into Montenegro, restriction on placement of funds, receipt of funds and / or other property". The post was removed after users began asking in the comments if relations with Moscow had really been severed.
"The Foreign Ministry mistakenly severed diplomatic relations with Russia", - wrote the country's leading pro-government newspaper, Pobeda, which takes a Russophobic stance.
