Kim Jong Un: North Korea will continue to strengthen nuclear forces

“We will take measures to further develop and strengthen the nuclear forces possessed by the DPRK at maximum speed”, - the Central Telegraph Agency quoted Kim Jong-un as saying.

The North Korean leader indicated that the country will make efforts to be ready to use the deterrent force of nuclear weapons at any moment. He called nuclear forces "a symbol and the basis of our military power". It is necessary to strengthen them, the head of state specified, in order "in case of war to be able to use them as a tool in various operations with different goals and to show the ability to carry out a nuclear battle". Moreover, Kim Jong-un believes that the purpose of nuclear weapons may not be limited to the function of preventing war.

“If some power encroaches on our core interests, it will be impossible not to use the second unexpected function of our nuclear forces”, - he stressed.

Earlier, the deputy director of the Propaganda and Agitation Department of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of the DPRK and Kim Jong-un's sister Kim Yo-jong said that North Korea opposes the war, but if South Korea attacks it, then Pyongyang will not hesitate to use nuclear weapons.
