Lavrov announced Moscow's principled position on the inadmissibility of nuclear war

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that Russia's principled position is the inadmissibility of a nuclear war. He stressed that the danger of this conflict should not be underestimated.

On the air of the Big Game program on Channel One, the head of the foreign ministry noted that in January of this year, the five permanent members of the UN Security Council made a statement about the inadmissibility of nuclear war.

"This is our principled position, we proceed from it, and, of course, I would very much not like that now, when the risks are very, very significant, I would very much not like these risks to be artificially inflated, and there are many who want them. The danger is serious, it is real, it cannot be underestimated”, - Lavrov said.

He noted that Moscow is "already doing a lot" to ensure that the current crisis is resolved. Lavrov recalled that even under the administration of US President Donald Trump, Russia advocated top-level confirmation of Mikhail Gorbachev and Ronald Reagan's 1987 statement about the inadmissibility of nuclear war. At that time, it was not possible to agree, but “we agreed with the Biden administration very quickly”, - the minister said, adding that the corresponding statement was made by the presidents of both countries - Vladimir Putin and Joe Biden - in June 2021 during the summit in Geneva.

It should be noted that the former American leader Donald Trump in mid-April made a statement that the US nuclear potential is the most powerful in the world, emphasizing that this is his merit.
