The authorities of Russia and the United States have agreed to exchange US citizen Trevor Reed (pictured), convicted in the Russian Federation, for Russian pilot Konstantin Yaroshenko, sentenced to 20 years in prison for drug trafficking.

According to RIA Novosti with reference to the Russian Foreign Ministry, as a result of a long negotiation process, on April 27, 2022, Trevor Rowdy Reed was exchanged for Russian citizen Konstantin Yaroshenko, who was sentenced to 20 years in prison by an American court in 2010.

"Reed was taken to Vnukovo airport, from where he flew to the United States", - is said in the statement.

As Interfax notes, Trevor Reed, a 28-year-old student from Texas, was sentenced to nine years in prison for attacking police officers in Moscow in the summer of 2019. In court, Reed said that he did not admit guilt and that he did not remember what happened, because he was drunk. He was found guilty of using violence against government officials. In June 2021, the Moscow City Court recognized Reid's sentence as legal.

In the Mordovian colony, Reed repeatedly went on hunger strikes due to what he considered to be illegal placement in a punishment cell. Lawyers and American diplomats said that Reed was suspected of having tuberculosis in the colony. For a long time there were negotiations about the return of Reed to the United States.

Pilot Konstantin Yaroshenko, who was arrested in May 2010 in Liberia, was taken to the United States and charged with drug trafficking. The court sentenced him to 20 years in prison. In April 2016, the New York Court of Appeals denied Yaroshenko a review of the sentence.
