After the end of the Cold War, many countries of the world started to spend much less money on armaments than did before.

At first glance, shocking figures are published by the world media, including Novye Izvestia, citing the annual report of the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI): in 2021, military spending by all countries of the world amounted to more than $ 2.1 trillion , and this is an absolute record in the history of mankind. In addition, analysts say that compared to 1990, real spending on weapons has grown by 40%, that is, after the end of the Cold War, the planet did not become peaceful, but quite the opposite - it is rapidly militarizing.

However, if you look closely, as the experts of the "Russian Futurist" did, then these figures will appear in a different light. In 1990, the total GDP of all countries in the world was 22 trillion dollars, while in 2021 it was about 85 trillion, that is, it increased by about 4 times. But in the same 1990, military spending amounted to about 7% of world GDP, and in 2021 - only 2.3% of world GDP. This means that, in relative terms, spending on armaments today is 3 times less than 30 years ago. That is, the world is demilitarizing, compared to the time of the Cold War.
