New rules for entering universities: what the 2022 prepares for applicants

Spring is a busy time for a future student. Tutors offer literally a couple of months to prepare for the exam, universities lure new programs. This year there will be new admission rules, and this makes the situation even more hectic. So, where do you go to study?

On March 1, the order of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science came into force with new rules for enrolling students in universities. These rules will be in effect until September 1, 2027. The main innovations are quite expected. In 2022, the results of the USE 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022 will be valid. Some universities may require a medical certificate 086 / y. This will be separately indicated on the official website of the university. You will also need documents that confirm the benefits upon admission, if any. Now many universities give up to 5 points for volunteering, for participating in competitions on the history of the Great Patriotic War, or for state competitions. They give additional points upon admission. TRP badge (now gold, silver, and bronze badges are taken into account), the final essay, the status of the winner / prize-winner of the national and / or international Abilympics championship. Olympiads also give additional priorities. Above all, of course, Vseross is quoted: points can be awarded even for participation in the last round. "Professional" classes will give a bonus of up to 10 additional points upon admission to "their" university. And 5-10 points are given even in the top universities for a diploma for round fives in the certificate.

Completely without exams and ratings enter: winners and prize-winners of the All-Russian Olympiads for schoolchildren; gold medalists of the Olympic, Paralympic, Deaflympics; world or European champions in any sport; members of Russian national teams of international Olympiads in general subjects (profile areas).

There is also distressing news: the second wave was never returned. This means that it is impossible to transfer consent to another university, it must be decided immediately. Since there will be no second wave again, each applicant has only one chance to enter, the applicant will not be able to use his result by choosing a less prestigious specialty or a less popular university.

The most popular universities are still focused on graduates with USE scores of 85+, and somewhere even 90 will not be enough. Therefore, when deciding which subjects to take in the USE, one must build on one's real capabilities.

“Last year, for the budget, the average USE score at MGIMO was 96.75. At the paid department - 86, 88. I think that this year there will be approximately the same numbers”, - said Gennady Tolstopyatenko, First Vice-Rector of MGIMO , at a press conference in Izvestia. At MVTU im. Bauman last year, the average USE score for the budget was 85 points. At the Russian State University of Oil and Gas. Gubkin - 85, at the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia (RUDN) - at the budget department, the average score last year was 87.59. However, this year, RUDN University provided additional benefits upon admission: Olympiads and high-scorers will receive additional scholarships from 15 to 25 thousand rubles in case of admission, and those who scored from 270 points upon admission and from 240 to priority areas (mathematics, computer science, physics ) will be able to receive a 50% discount on tuition by enrolling in a paid department.

In other universities there are no less tempting offers. So, in MVTU them. Bauman began the so-called "target admission" - about 1000 students will be accepted on the recommendations of enterprises. At the same time, as Boris Padalkin, vice-rector of the Moscow Higher Technical School, said at a press conference in Izvestia, the competition for target specialties is often higher than for those who go on general admission conditions. "Targeted students" is a guaranteed job after graduation: MVTU maintains links with several employers at once.

Traditionally, the question arises about the number of budget places. This year we should expect high competition: after all, those who planned to study abroad will enter universities, and these are often strong and motivated guys. However, universities have taken this trend into account and have already announced an increase in state-funded places. “The number of state-funded places related to information technology will be increased. In general, there will be more places in specialties related to IT technologies”, - explained Boris Padalkin, Vice-Rector of the Moscow Higher Technical School.

“We will increase the number of places in areas related to information security”, - said the rector of the Russian State University of Oil and Gas. Gubkin Viktor Martynov.

But in RUDN this year - a general increase in budget places, this was stated by the first vice-rector of the university Yulia Ebzeyeva. If last year RUDN recruited 1029 budget places, then this year 2183 budget places will be provided.

The increase in the number of places in specialties related to programming and information technology is, in general, it seems to be the trend of this year. “The Agency for Strategic Initiatives, based on its research, found out that we now lack at least 120,000 specialists in the field of information technology. The proportion of students who choose this direction is growing. Taking into account the needs of the labor market in people of these specialties, universities have provided only 20% of paid places in this direction, the rest - the budget. At the same time, some universities are going to provide a short, two-year training course for future programmers and IT specialists. As far as I know, the Polytechnic University and the Physico-Technical University have such plans”, - Irina Abankina, director of the Institute for the Development of Education of the National Research University Higher School of Economics, candidate of economic sciences, told NI.

What other specialties will be in demand besides IT, programming and engineering? Here is the forecast from the leading Russian universities:

- “The Institute of Oil and Gas traditionally has a great demand for specialties related to the development of gas and oil fields, there is a demand for training in the specialty “resource processing”. Recently, applicants have become interested in such a specialty as "integrated security of the fuel and energy complex", - said Viktor Martynov, rector of the Russian State University of Oil and Gas.

- “In recent years, RUDN University has noted an increase in interest in such “vital” specialties as “general medicine”, pharmaceuticals. Jurisprudence, state and municipal administration, linguistics, and journalism are traditionally popular. It is interesting that all foreign students will continue their studies at RUDN, none of them have applied for expulsion”, - said RUDN Vice-Rector Yulia Ebzeeva.

- “In recent years, there has been a great demand for medical education, pharmaceuticals, design, computer technology, production, all types of media communications. Recently, veterinary medicine has also become popular among the areas, and this is understandable: the agro-complex is being revived, and this profession is in demand in the urban environment”, - Irina Abankina, director of the Institute for the Development of Education at the Higher School of Economics, told NI.

So where should the poor student go? And not the poor too? According to Yulia Ebzeeva, vice-rector of RUDN University, it is necessary, first of all, to proceed from abilities and go where the young man will be a leader. Because no matter what the demanded specialties are offered by universities, the profession should first of all be to your liking.
