President of the Russian Council of Shopping Centers Dmitry Moskalenko noted a 15% decrease in attendance at shopping centers on average after the closure of foreign stores. He stressed that foreign companies have already come close to breaking the lease agreements.

“In early - mid-March, when Western brand stores began to announce temporary closures, traffic in the shopping center jumped sharply, queues lined up in retail outlets. Later, attendance decreased markedly - about 15%”, - said Moskalenko (quoted by TASS).

The head of the RSTC noted that the decrease in attendance leads to losses for the owners of the shopping center: the rent includes a percentage of the turnover. According to him, the losses of the owners of objects depend on the location of the mall and the number of closed stores. At the same time, foreign companies that close stores do not terminate lease agreements.

“But there is information that some companies have already come close to such a decision”, - added the head of Russian Council of Shopping Centers.

Due to the decrease in turnover, some tenants have asked to reduce the rent. In particular, communication salons. According to Moskalenko, such issues will be decided by the owners of the shopping center on an individual basis, as was the case with clothing stores.

“We are confident that a compromise will be found and communication stores will continue their work in shopping centers”, - commented the head of Moskalenko.
