The performance is conceived as a synthesis of documentary theatre, opera and mysteries.

On May 31, the Museum of Moscow will present the premiere of the documentary opera Asket, dedicated to the nuclear scientist and human rights activist Andrei Sakharov. According to the museum's website, the opera by composer Nikolai Popov, staged by director Yuri Kvyatkovsky, will not be a traditional retelling of Sakharov's biography, but an attempt to "understand the 'tragic archetype' of a man of science obsessed with the mysteries of being".

In form, this is a synthesis of documentary theatre, opera and mysteries, in which facts from the life of Sakharov "are intertwined with gospel stories, ancient mythology and the story of the monk Giordano Bruno, who once became a victim of the Inquisition for revolutionary ideas about the structure of the cosmos".

The performance will be held as part of the SOUND UP Contemporary Music Festival, the production will be attended by the Praktika Theater, the Brusnikin Workshop and the Electro-Acoustic Music Center of the Moscow State Conservatory. P.I. Tchaikovsky. Specially for the production, the Center's engineers will create electromechanical musical instruments that will become part of the sound score of the opera.
