“The monument to the Russian prince Alexander Nevsky was demolished in Kharkov. The stone figure of the prince, who saved Kievan Rus from the raids of foreign invaders, was hooked with a cable and knocked down with a truck. After that, the remains of the monument were taken to the nearest landfill, ”the local public VKontakte, which published the video, reports.
There were no official statements from the Kharkov authorities. The monument was erected in 2004 in honor of the 350th anniversary of the city. The monument consisted of a 4-meter pedestal, upholstered in granite, and a 3-meter bronze figure of the commander. The author of the monument is Seyfaddin Gurbanov .
Judging by the published video of the demolition of the monument, after falling from the pedestal, the sculpture was severely damaged.
