In early June, a joint collection of Adidas and Gucci will be on sale. One of the most talked about items of the upcoming collaboration was a G-handle sun umbrella with a print that combines the logos of both brands. The umbrella costs $1,290 and doesn't keep out the rain, according to Business Insider. "Please note that this item is not waterproof and is intended for sun protection or decorative use", - the product description on Gucci's website reads.
In China, where demand for luxury goods is very strong (it is predicted that by 2025 the country could become the world's largest market for luxury goods), the new collection will be even more expensive and will cost 11,100 yuan ($ 1,600) for an umbrella. This fact, as well as the umbrella itself, caused an active discussion in social networks. “Very big but useless fashion statement”, - wrote a Weibo user.
A Gucci customer service rep told Beijing-based Caijing magazine that the umbrella "is not recommended for use as an everyday umbrella". It has "good collectible value and is suitable for use as an accessory".
The collection will go on sale June 7th.
