Navalny's sentence* was upheld - he is being transferred to a strict regime colony

The Moscow City Court upheld the conviction of opposition leader Alexei Navalny* (pictured) for fraud and contempt of court. Thus, Navalny must spend nine years in prison. Now he is awaiting transfer to a strict regime colony.

The verdict came into force. In the near future, Navalny* will be transferred to a strict regime colony, where convicts have greater restrictions than in general regime colonies on the number of visits, transfers, parcels, letters, spending money from a personal account, and the duration of daily walks in the open air.

It's worth reminding that on March 22, at an off- site meeting of IK-2 in Pokrov, Vladimir Region, the court found Navalny* guilty in a case involving particularly large-scale fraud and disrespect for justice.

On March 15, during the trial in the Navalny* case, the prosecutor requested a guilty verdict for the accused in the form of 13 years in a strict regime colony, two years in prison and a fine of 1.2 million rubles. The defendant pleaded not guilty. The oppositionist's lawyers insisted on an acquittal, arguing that there was no corpus delicti in the defendant's actions.
