The Ministry of Education and Science has made a proposal to increase the volume of history teaching in universities up to 144 academic hours.

It is assumed that the increase in history hours will not depend on the specialization of students - from "nuclear reactors" to "artistic direction of an opera and symphony orchestra and an academic choir". According to Kommersant, the expansion may even occur at the expense of other courses.

The agency has published draft amendments to the Federal State Educational Standards (FSES) of higher education for public discussion. The ministry indicated that for all faculties they propose to approve the general requirements for teaching the discipline "History of Russia". The explanatory note says that the project is connected with the decision of the interdepartmental commission on historical education and the council for the development of historical education under the Ministry of Education and Science. Both organizations considered an initiative to introduce a common history course for all students.

"In Russia, only 0.4 percent of students receive a professional history education, and 99.6 percent of students should study it, but in fact they do not do it enough. It is precisely these students that the innovation will concern", - explained the deputy head of the council for the development of historical education, chairman of the board of the Russian Historical Society Konstantin Mogilevsky .

It's worth reminding that from the new academic year, Russian schools will introduce lessons of historical education in primary grades. Recommendations on this matter have been prepared for the regions. They are planned to be discussed at a meeting with ministers, after which proposals will be sent to the regions. This will be done by the end of May. In particular, it is proposed to introduce film lessons on historical topics. It is planned to implement this project in the new academic year.
