Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed to appoint Alexander Kurenkov to this position.
Speaking at the Federation Council, Alexander Kurenkov stressed that in his new position he would rely on local self-government bodies and the governor's corps in matters of emergency situations prevention. In addition, he announced his intention to increase the agency's presence in the Donbass, as well as to increase social support for agency employees.
It's worth reminding that earlier the post of head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations was held by Evgeny Zinichev. He died in September last year, trying to save a man. During a working trip, operator Alexander Melnikov stumbled and fell off a cliff. Yevgeny Zinichev jumped after him, wanting to save him. However, both died. Evgeny Zinichev was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of Russia.
