Helsinki University Hospital (HUS) has confirmed concerns about the first case of monkeypox in Finland. These suspicions arose on May 25.

It is specified that the disease was diagnosed in a citizen of New Zealand, who is now in the Uusimaa region in southern Finland.

“The source of infection has been identified and persons who had close contact with the infected person have been identified. The patient is being cared for at home and is in relatively good condition,” said Lasse Lehtonen, Head of Diagnostics (quoted by Yle ) .

Monkeypox was confirmed on Thursday evening. The patient has blisters and a high fever. Prior to this, an unnamed New Zealander traveled around Europe.

“The chance of the disease spreading in Finland is very low,” says Lehtonen .
