This is reported by RIA Novosti, referring to the official representative of the UN Secretary General Stefan Dujarric. The change has already taken effect. Turkey's place in alphabetical order will not change.
According to Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Chuvasoglu, these changes were adopted as part of the steps of official Ankara, which are aimed at "increasing the country's prestige in the international arena."
Recall that the Thai government also decided to change the name of the Thai capital - Bangkok. In Latin script, it should not be called Bangkok, but Krung Thep Maha Nakhon. Previously, China changed the name of Beijing to Beijing, and Myanmar renamed Rangoon to Yangon.
Thus, the authorities of the countries are trying to bring the names of cities (and the republics themselves) into more consonant with the original local names.
