Ministry of digital development has a plan "B" in case of disconnection of Internet traffic from the European network

In this scenario, Internet traffic will be redirected through Asia.

“We have a plan, in the event of a complete disconnection of Russian operators from international traffic exchange points in Europe, to send traffic through Asia”, - said Shadayev, quoted by the press service of the Russian Ministry of Digital Development.

He noted that there have already been similar precedents for Russian operators. The minister emphasized the readiness for such a development of events of the main backbone operator, which is Rostelecom.

“There were one or two precedents for disconnecting Russian operators from international traffic exchange points. But we see that traffic exchange points are now operating for us in the European direction”, - said the head of the department.

Previously, LINX and Cogent took decisions to shut down Russian operators, while Cloudflare opposed the shutdown of Russia. The US State Department also urged not to turn off the Internet in Russia in order to maintain free access to information.
