The number of users of technology that allows bypassing the blocking of Internet resources banned in Russia has reached 24 million people.

The British edition of The Times publishes impressive figures showing how Russians feel about the increased blocking of information that they consider undesirable to them. In May of this year, VPN technology, which allows the user not only to hide his real location, but also visit blocked sites, has already been used by 24 million citizens of the country, while in February there were just over one and a half million...

The publication cites data from the Mediascope service, judging by which the number of Internet users in our country is 97.5 million people over 12 years old. That is, almost a quarter of adult residents of Russia have learned to bypass the blocking. True, last fall, Roskomnadzor cited other numbers of users - 124 million Russians. In this case, a fifth of the residents use VPN.

Interestingly, the experts of the publication are not inclined to believe that the Kremlin is seriously at war with the Internet, no, in their opinion, rather, it denotes this war purely symbolically, well aware that, in general, Russians are not looking for unwanted information on the Web, but for opportunities to communicate or have fun.

The publication also cites the following figures: in our country today more than a thousand websites and popular social networks, including dozens of independent media, are blocked for Russians.
