US backs Taiwan in dispute with China

"The Taiwan Strait is an international waterway, which means that the Taiwan Strait is an area where freedoms on the high seas, including freedom of navigation and overflight, are guaranteed under international law," US State Department spokesman Ned Price quoted Reuters as saying.

Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that Washington is going to continue to help Taiwan in self-defense and influence the actions of Beijing.

It's worth reminding that the American leader Joe Biden stated that the country will protect Taiwan from attack by China, pointing out that "Taiwan cannot be annexed by force". And after that, Washington immediately assured that there had been no changes in relations between the United States and China.

Official Beijing expressed sharp dissatisfaction and strong protest at Biden's words.

"Taiwan is an integral part of China's territory", - Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said.

Note that on the eve of China's Dawa, Xi Jinping signed new rules governing the "non-military" use of the armed forces for military operations. Experts point out that this decree is in fact permission to invade Taiwan without declaring war.
