Natalya Dolgushina, chief freelance specialist of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation for women's reproductive health, announced an emergency demographic situation in the country.

The expert noted an annual downward trend in the number of women of reproductive age, as well as a shift in the peak of fertility.

“The demographic situation is extraordinary. In addition to the fact that the number of women of reproductive age has decreased in our country, according to the latest data, we are losing 0.6% per year in our population of women who are able to give birth to children”, - Dolgushina said at SPIEF during the session “Health of generations is the basis demographic policy "(quote from TASS).

According to her, Russian women more often began to give birth to their first child by the age of 30, when, in addition to the risks of infertility, the likelihood of having a child with pathologies increases. The specialist called it "a big problem".

“We have shifted the peak of fertility - women begin to give birth to their first child only by the age of 30. This means that there is already a certain burden of disease, and even if a woman does not yet suffer from infertility, unfortunately, the risk of both mothers' morbidity and morbidity of born children increases, ”the expert said.

According to Dolgushina, almost half of infant mortality occurs in the first month after birth. She called this situation a consequence of perinatal maternal diseases and complications.

Earlier, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova spoke about the demographic problem in Russia. She noted that between 2010 and 2021, the number of women of reproductive age 20-29 years old in the country decreased from 7.5 million to 4.5 million.
