Moscow authorities have given the name "Donetsk People's Republic Square" to an unnamed area adjacent to the US embassy in Moscow.

As stated in the message on the official website of the capital's mayor's office, the name was given to an unnamed territory in the Presnensky district of the Central Administrative District of Moscow, located from Bolshoy Devyatinsky Lane to Maly Konyushkovsky Lane along Konyushkovskaya Street.

"Assign ...the name - "the area of the Donetsk People's Republic", - quotes the text of the resolution of the mayor's office Interfax.

The proposal to give the square an official name was put forward on May 18 by deputies of the Moscow City Duma.

Initially, they wanted to call the site near the US Embassy "Donbass Defenders Square", however, following the results of the popular vote on the Active Citizen platform, a different option was chosen. Most of the survey participants supported the name "Square of the Donetsk People's Republic".

The initiative of deputies and active citizens was approved in the Kremlin. According to the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov, now in Moscow it is necessary to find a space in which the name of the Luhansk People's Republic (LPR) will be perpetuated. On June 8, the deputies proposed making the square near the German embassy such a space. It was decided to rename it to the "Square of the Luhansk People's Republic".

Earlier it was reported that representatives of the EU and the United States did not approve of Russia's recognition of the independence of the LNR and the DNR. During the SPIEF, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev also expressed his disagreement with the recognition of self-determination of territories that are part of other states, explaining that in this case the right of nations to self-determination is in conflict with the right of states to territorial integrity.

He added that Kazakhstan, despite having friendly ties with Russia, will not recognize the independence of the LPR and DPR, since if such practice spreads around the world, separatist sentiments will expand, and instead of about 200 existing states, about 500 countries may appear on the world map, which create chaos in international relations.
