The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has declared its readiness to recognize the sovereignty of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics (DPR and LPR).

This was reported by Kommersant with reference to the Syrian state agency SANA.

“By embodying the common will and desire to improve relations in all areas, the Syrian Arab Republic has decided to recognize the independence and sovereignty of both the Lugansk People’s Republic and the Donetsk People’s Republic”, - the Syrian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The Syrian authorities announced their intention to recognize the independence of the LPR and DPR at the end of February of this year, even before the start of the military special operation of the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine.

Russia recognized the independence of the LPR and DPR on February 21 at the request of their authorities and promised them cooperation. Shortly thereafter, on February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the launch of a special military operation to protect the population of Donbass.

Most countries in the world do not recognize the independence of the LPR and DPR. Only Abkhazia, South Ossetia, the Yemeni Houthis, Nicaragua and Nagorno-Karabakh declared their consent to recognize them.

During the SPIEF, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev stated that his state does not recognize the LDNR , since these are "quasi-state formations." If everyone supports separatism, then instead of 200 states in the world, about 600 will be formed, which will significantly complicate the international situation.

Meanwhile, in the LPR, DPR, in the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions of Ukraine, referendums on “self-determination” or “joining Russia” are already being prepared. Western countries do not recognize the issuance of Russian passports to residents of regions of Ukraine that are under the control of the Russian army.
