“He is being accused in a criminal case of fraud on an especially large scale, previously initiated against the former Deputy Minister of Education of the Russian Federation Marina Rakova, director of the Institute of Social Sciences of the RANEPA, rector of the Moscow Higher School of Social and Economic Sciences Sergey Zuyev and other persons”, — is said in a statement on the website of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the city of Moscow.
The publication refers to ongoing investigative actions, searches in the house of the rector and university staff. It is noted that the investigation is under the control of the leadership of the Investigation Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
There were also reports in the media about the detention of Mau.
“Mau was detained in the case of Rakova. He has been charged with fraud”, - a law enforcement source told TASS.
The interlocutor of the agency said that investigators demand that Mau be sent under house arrest. RBC puts forward another version, according to which on June 28 the rector of the RANEPA was summoned for interrogation, and on June 29 “investigative actions” were carried out with him, but one of the sources of the publication also reported the detention.
“The court received a petition from the investigator to elect house arrest against Mau Vladimir Alexandrovich for a period until August 7”, - Interfax reports, referring to the press service of the Tverskoy Court of Moscow, where the petition was received.
The publication notes that Mau's lawyer confirmed the information about the charge. According to the materials provided, the rector of the RANEPA is charged with committing a crime under Part 4 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation - fraud committed on an especially large scale. This article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for up to 10 years.
