The Moscow authorities have appointed director Anton Yakovlev as the new artistic director of the Gogol Center, and Alexander Bocharnikov as the director of the theater.

According to Interfax , referring to the department of culture of the capital, the appointments are connected with the "termination of relations and the expiration of employment contracts with the previous leadership." Previously, the artistic director of the theater was Alexei Agranovich, who replaced Kirill Serebrennikov, who had held the position since 2012.

Serebrennikov commented on the change in theater management, saying that the Gogol Center was closed:

- Yes. Gogol Center is closed. All <...> They close the live theater. With constant crowds. With a wonderful audience. With a unique repertoire. Theater of world renown. Theater for the people. They can do it by the right of the founder.

Recall that the talk that the "Gogol Center" may be closed, began a month ago. Serebrennikov went abroad, the contracts of Agranovich and Alexei Kabeshev (director) ended on July 4. Experts believe that the capital does not need a theater without Serebrennikov. At present, Agranovich is looking for a new place for rehearsals, the troupe is not being disbanded.
