The Russian embassy in the United States is verifying evidence of the likely presence of Russian citizenship in one of the dead in the Chicago suburb of Highland Park, Illinois.

It is specified that we are talking about Irina McCarthy. No information was received from law enforcement agencies about the affected Russians, RIA Novosti writes with reference to the diplomatic mission.

The issue is under the control of the Russian embassy.

Recall that on July 4, during the parade in honor of the Independence Day, shooting was opened. As a result, seven people died. Among them were Irina McCarthy and her husband Kevin McCarthy.

Earlier it became known that eyewitnesses heard up to 25 shots. Witnesses could not determine the type of weapon. According to local TV channel WGN, the shooter was on the roof of one of the houses.

The shooter was 21-year-old Robert Krimo. The suspect has now been charged. The attacker faces life imprisonment. The prosecutor's office will go to court with a request to deprive Krimo of the opportunity to be released on bail during the proceedings.

According to local police, back in 2019, the young man threatened to shoot his relatives. His problem was dealt with by "specialists in mental health."
