By the end of the first quarter of 2022, the debts of Russians for housing and communal services (HCS) increased by 7.6% compared to last year, to 804.5 billion rubles.

According to Kommersant, in absolute terms, the volume of debts accumulated by Russians for housing and communal services increased by 56.6 billion rubles.

As noted by Izvestia with reference to Rosstat data, the current growth in debt has become a record.

"Debts to resource-supplying organizations increased by 11%, to management companies - by 3%", - the report says.

In total, over the last six months of last year, consumers of fuel and energy resources owed 1.4 trillion rubles to suppliers within the country. Of these, 901 billion rubles were debts of users of housing and communal services.

The debts of citizens may grow against the backdrop of the massive closure of production and the growth of unemployment, which has been outlined in the country after the start of the military special operation of the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine. At the same time, experts warn that non-payment of housing and communal services is fraught with blackouts of electricity, gas and water, which will turn the previously comfortable apartment of the debtor into a kind of primitive cave. In the case of malicious evasion of citizens from paying for consumed services, the authorities can initiate the sale of debtors' housing and repayment of debts through the sale of real estate.
