As Prosecutor General Igor Krasnov told Kommersant, since February 24, counteraction to the dissemination of calls for extremism and terrorism, riots and fake news on the Internet has been strengthened in the country.
It should be noted that on August 6, for example, the largest news portal on Sakhalin was blocked - it published aggressive comments from users who insulted the participants in the special operation and criticized Russia's actions in Ukraine. Representatives of the portal tried to justify themselves, stating that they had not received any warnings.
It's worth reminding that since March 4, after the start of the special operation, new articles on “public dissemination of knowingly false information” and “public discrediting the use” of the Russian armed forces were introduced in the Criminal Code and the Code of Administrative Offenses. Currently over 3,300 citizens of the Russian Federation have been convicted under these articles. Among them are deputies, public figures, athletes, clergy , musicians. The most severe punishment under the introduced articles is up to 15 years in prison.
