Karabakh authorities announced demobilization

The President of the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, Arayik Harutyunyan, signed a decree on the demobilization of citizens previously called up for military service against the backdrop of an aggravated confrontation with Azerbaijan.

According to Kommersant , Harutyunyan's press service circulated the demobilization statement.

The decision on partial mobilization was made on August 3 against the background of the escalation of the situation on the Azerbaijani-Armenian border.

The reason for bringing the army units on special alert was the death of a Karabakh military as a result of shelling from Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijan, in turn, did not recognize the fact of the shelling, blaming the Armenian army for the incident. As Operation Retribution, the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan launched a special operation to capture several heights in Karabakh. Then the Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan turned to Russia for help. He called on the Russian peacekeepers in Karabakh to stop the advance of the Azerbaijani army.

Clashes between the Armenian and Azerbaijani sides in Karabakh have been occurring regularly since the signing of the ceasefire agreement. At the same time, opposition protests continue in Yerevan, demanding Pashinyan's resignation against the backdrop of accusations that he allegedly has intentions to cede Karabakh to Azerbaijan .
