The actress has joined the alliance of Euroskeptics who oppose the policies of Mario Draghi.

Movie star Gina Lollobrigida has announced she will run as a candidate in early elections to the Italian Parliament in September, Bloomberg reports. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-08-15/italy-cinema-icon-lollobrigida-95-runs-as-eurosceptic-in-vote on his 95th birthday, explaining that he was "fed up with bickering politicians".

Lollobrigida intends to run for parliament as an independent candidate from the city of Latina near Rome, joining the Sovereign and People's Italy party (Italia Sovrana e Popolare, ISP). This alliance of two political groups, uniting Euroskeptics, opposes Mario Draghi, sending weapons to Ukraine and "war-mongering within the Alliance."

In an interview with the Corriere della Sera newspaper, the actress said that she was inspired by the example of Mahatma Gandhi, who preached non-violence, and that she was a “great friend” of Indira Gandhi: “I met her every time she came to Rome. She was an extraordinary woman."

Lollobrigida has already made attempts to become a politician, in 1999 she ran for the elections to the European Parliament as a Democratic candidate. Last month, the actress said she was "determined to remain a creative person" and intends to turn her energy to "important things, especially for my country." In January of this year, Italy's top court ruled that Lollobrigida needed a legal guardian to prevent those around her from cashing in on her wealth.

General early elections to the Italian parliament are to be held on 25 September. Silvio Berlusconi, 85, also announced his intention to run last week, saying he intends to "make everyone happy."
