The day of August 18 in St. Petersburg became the hottest day for this date in the history of meteorological observations: the air temperature warmed up to 30.6 degrees.

According to Interfax, citing data from the Phobos weather center, the previous maximum, set in 1941, was 0.7 degrees below this temperature. The day of August 18 itself is the hottest for the entire last month of summer this year.

A day earlier, a new temperature record was also set in St. Petersburg: the thermometers rose to 30.1 degrees. This temperature was 0.2 degrees of the record recorded in 2008.

During this summer, four temperature records have already been recorded in the northern capital: two in July and two in August. It is expected that 30-degree heat will continue in the city on August 19. A slight drop in daytime temperatures is expected only at the weekend.

Due to the heat in the city, an orange alert level has been declared. Roads and passers - by for cooling public utilities pour water from watering machines.

Earlier it was reported that temperature records this summer are recorded almost everywhere. Scientists attribute this to the effects of global warming. Natural disasters, including forest fires , are considered a dangerous side effect of this phenomenon.
