Scientists have reported the first known case of a person testing positive for monkeypox, Covid-19 and HIV at the same time. This is reported by the Daily Mail , citing a publication in the scientific journal Journal of Infection.
The patient is a 36-year-old Italian who was vacationing in Spain from June 16 to 20, where he admitted to having unprotected sex with men. Nine days after returning from the trip, he developed the first symptoms: weakness, fever, sore throat.
On July 2, he received a positive covid test result. On the same day, he developed a rash on his arm, which later spread to his torso, legs, face, and buttocks. Three days later, he went to the emergency room, where he was tested for monkeypox and tested positive. There, he was screened for multiple STIs and found positive for HIV. Judging by the number of CD4 T-lymphocytes, infection occurred relatively recently.
