The LastPass password manager, which has already become 33 million users worldwide, claims that the source code has been hacked, as well as the theft of confidential information by hackers.

According to BleepingComputer , the passwords were not seized as a result of the hack, which means that users do not have to worry about the loss of personal data. The developer environment used by employees to maintain the password manager was hacked. It is likely that cybercriminals gained access to the manager through developer account. The attack was on a company that generates and stores auto-generated passwords for multiple accounts, such as Netflix or Gmail, on behalf of users and without the need to enter credentials manually.

Among the users of the manager are the manufacturer of equipment for an active lifestyle Patagonia, the Yelp service search portal, and the large American insurer State Farm.

Meanwhile, in Russia they intend to create a material compensation fund for victims of database leaks, this issue is being worked out with large IT companies. Specialists are working on establishing conditions for payments, a mechanism for determining the amount of payments, etc. According to experts, the creation of such a fund will require administrative costs and a system for recording and distributing compensation.
