Russian President Vladimir Putin said that it was not Russia that unleashed hostilities in Ukraine. They began back in 2014 with the genocide of the population of Donbass.

Russia is striving for an end to this conflict.

"I want to once again emphasize the absolutely correct thesis - we have not started anything in terms of military operations in Ukraine, but are only trying to finish them," the president said, speaking at the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok. The president's words are quoted by RIA Novosti.

Vladimir Putin noted that after the coup d'état in 2014, military operations were started by those who sought to suppress their own people, conducting one military operation after another. The President noted that for eight years the inhabitants of Donbass were subjected to genocide.

The Russian president expressed confidence that the country would not lose anything from the military special operation. The polarization taking place in the world will only benefit the country.
