This was announced by the press secretary of the President Ruslan Zheldibay.
The proposal to rename the city was submitted to the Parliament by an initiative group of deputies. "The proposal of the parliamentarians is included in the draft constitutional law with the consent of the head of state," the presidential press secretary wrote on the social network.
He added that the role of President Nursultan Nazarbayev in the development of the capital cannot be denied, therefore, all other objects named after him in this city will retain their former name.
Recall that in 1997 the President of Kazakhstan decided to move the capital to the city of Akmola. The following year, the city was renamed Astana. The toponym Astana from the Kazakh language means "capital", "capital". In 2019, the country's president, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, proposed renaming the city in honor of the first president of the republic.
