The decision to dismiss was made on September 12, ERR reports, citing theater director Svetlana Yanchek.
"With his ongoing social media appearances, Philippe Los harms the reputation of the theater and provokes an extremely negative attitude towards the very existence of the Russian Theater in Estonia", - Jancek said.
She believes that the director had the opportunity to respond to "the most burning issues of our time" as part of his work through performances, but he "choosed a dubious way to declare his views on social networks and did it in a form that was offensive to many".
In addition, the situation “heated up” inside the theater itself, because, according to the director’s owls, “the acting team made it clear that today the importance of Philip Los as a creative unit cannot be compared with the harm that he does to the theater”.
The contract with the director ended on September 5. After that day, the duties of the artistic director passed to Yanchek.
On September 1, it became known that Urmas Paet, a member of the European Parliament from the Estonian Reform Party, which is part of the ruling coalition, demanded that Los's residence permit in Estonia be immediately taken away. He stated that Los supposedly hates Estonia, which means that his position as director of the state theater is unacceptable.
By the way, yesterday the Ministry of Culture of Lithuania, based on the recommendations of a specially created group, decided to rename the Russian Drama Theater into the Vilnius Old Theater.
