Border is locked tight. Latvia will not issue visas to Russians who evade mobilization

The Latvian foreign minister said his country would not grant any visa exemptions to those Russian citizens who decide to avoid mobilization.

As you know, Putin announced a partial mobilization in the country, and right from today, September 21. There have already been reports on social media that Russian Railways and Russian airlines have stopped selling tickets to men under 65, without a certificate from the military registration and enlistment office that they are allowed to leave their place of residence. However, both Russian Railways and Aeroflot have already refuted this information.

However, they would not have gone far anyway, since the countries adjacent to Russia seem to have begun to close their borders. Latvia started this process, the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of which, Edgars Rinkevics, wrote in his account:

“For security reasons, Latvia will not issue humanitarian or other types of visas to those Russian citizens who evade mobilization, and will not change the border crossing restrictions for Russian citizens with Schengen visas introduced since September 19”.

According to him, Latvia will offer the allied countries joint actions in connection with the partial mobilization in Russia.

Recall that Belgium, Denmark, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Poland, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Estonia announced a few weeks ago that they no longer accept documents for tourist visas from Russian citizens.
