Kazakh National Bank and Vietnamese BIDV stop accepting Mir cards

Banks of Vietnam and Kazakhstan, following Turkish financial institutions, began to stop accepting cards of the Russian payment system Mir.

According to Izvestia, referring to the call centers of the Vietnamese BIDV and the People's Bank of Kazakhstan (Halyk Bank). The Vietnamese bank stated that they do not accept Mir, but only serve VISA, Mastercard, Western Union, JCB, UnionPay, the Kazakhstani bank indicated that Mir is not serviced either through terminals or through ATMs. Moreover, in other banks of Kazakhstan, cards of the Russian payment system continue to be serviced.

In April, the National Payment Card System reported that Mir cards were accepted in eight countries, including Vietnam (with BIDV and VRB banks and service through the infrastructure of the NAPAS payment system, and Kazakhstan (with ATMs of VTB, Sberbank, Halyk Bank and " Credit Center).

Last week, the United States imposed sanctions against the National Payment Card System, which acts as the operator of Mir cards. Turkish Isbank suspended the use of the Russian Mir payment system. A similar decision was also made by Turkish DenizBank. But Mir cards continue to be accepted by Turkish banks Ziraat Bankasi, VakifBank and Halkbank.
