"I ask you to support our candidacy. The candidature of a country that observes the principles of the UN and which stands for cooperation and participates in it", - Interfax quotes the words of Scholz, said during a speech at the 77th session of the UN General Assembly.
The Chancellor pointed to the need to "adapt our rules and institutions to the realities of the 21st century," referring to the UN Security Council. Scholz recalled that the FRG had been advocating its reforms and expansion for many years.
It's worth reminding that in the spring of this year, the issue of reforming the UN Security Council was raised after Russia launched a special operation in Ukraine.
In early September, US Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield announced that her country intends to raise the issue of a radical reform of the UN Security Council. Washington, she said, supports the reform of the Security Council of the Organization, and, in particular, the expansion of the geographical representation of its members and the use of the right of veto.
