On September 21, more than a thousand people were detained at illegal actions in Russia, human rights activists said, specifying that most of the arrests were recorded in Moscow and St. Petersburg.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs confirmed the fact of detentions, but did not specify the figure, writes Forbes. As of 21:42 Moscow time, 1,176 participants in illegal actions were detained in the country, OVD-Info * reported. Of these, 424 people were detained in the capital, at least 490 in St. Petersburg. In total, detentions took place in 38 cities.

“All of them have been stopped, and the persons who have committed offenses have been detained and taken to the territorial police departments for investigation and prosecution”, - the Interior Ministry said in a statement.

On September 21, arrests were reported in Moscow during an uncoordinated rally.

Prior to this, on the same day , the Moscow prosecutor's office warned citizens about administrative and criminal liability for participating in uncoordinated mass actions, calls for which began to spread rapidly on the Internet after the publication of the decree of the President of the Russian Federation on mobilization. The protesters were warned against violating the current legislation, since participation in mass riots, involving minors in protests and spreading fake news about the army is punishable under Art. 212, 151 and 207.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The maximum penalty can be up to 15 years in prison.
