Japanese Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi (pictured) said during a G-7 meeting in New York that Tokyo plans to further expand restrictive measures against Russia.

According to the Kyodo agency, companies from the Russian Federation related to the military and defense sphere will be included in the sanctions list. Details are not given.

This decision was made by the Japanese authorities against the background of the decision to hold referendums on the accession of Donbass to Russia, as well as parts of the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions. The European Union has already announced future sanctions in case of referendums. The West refused to recognize the results of these referendums in advance. In Ukraine, they even threatened citizens with criminal liability and five years in prison for voting.

Recall that the republics of Donbass declared their desire to hold a referendum on the entry of these territories into Russia. Representatives of the DPR and LPR indicated that a referendum on this issue will be held from 23 to 27 September. Citizens will be asked the question "Are you for the entry of the LPR / DPR into Russia as a subject of Russia?". The results are planned to be announced within five days after the event. In addition, the administration of the Kherson region decided to hold a referendum on the region's entry into Russia.
