Save the Earth: PETA activists propose weaning male meat-eaters from sex

The German branch of the animal rights organization believes that the announcement of a "sex strike" against representatives of toxic masculinity will save the planet from the climate crisis.

PETA Germany is calling on women to "go on a sex strike to save the world", - Bild reports the Daily Mail. In their appeal, the activists refer to a study published last year in the scientific journal PLOS One, which claimed that men emit 41% more greenhouse gases than women due to their food habits. The authors of the study found that 57% of food-related greenhouse gases come from meat and dairy products.

“Who doesn’t know them, suburban fathers who hold beer bottles and barbecue tongs”, - said Daniel Cox, head of Peta Germany. – The fact that the German “grill masters” prove their manliness by eating meat does not only harm animals. Now there is scientific evidence that toxic masculinity is also bad for the climate”. In addition to a ban on sex and the ability to reproduce, Peta Germany is proposing a 41% meat tax on men.

The appeals sparked outrage in Germany, which is famous for its love of sausages and schnitzel, and Bild, which published the story on the front page, called it a "crazy proposal." Nevertheless, there is a sound grain in the ironic campaign of German activists. Livestock contributes to global warming through methane, nitrous oxide and carbon emissions. A study this year by scientists at Stanford University found that a total shutdown of meat production around the world in 15 years could cut global carbon emissions by 68% and save the Earth from global warming.
