Erdogan is going to talk with Putin about referendums and nuclear weapons

Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan intends to talk with Russian President Vladimir Putin on September 29 about the referendums held in the Donbass, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions, as well as the need to remove the threat of using nuclear weapons in the Ukrainian conflict.

Erdogan told CNN Trk that he is "greatly concerned" about the referendums, as he sees the preconditions for annexation.

“If Mr. Putin, whom I know, has something in his head, he will do it”, - the Turkish president pointed out.

Erdogan drew a parallel with 2014, when Crimea returned to Russia. The head of the Turkish state indicated that he would like to see "there are no such referendums".

In addition, he noted that the cost of switching to nuclear weapons in a military conflict between Russia and Ukraine would be "catastrophic." Therefore, it is necessary to come to the exclusion of such a scenario through diplomatic means.

The day before, Angela Merkel, the former chancellor of Germany, who has hardly spoken out about the conflict since the beginning of the Russian special operation in Ukraine, said that she took Vladimir Putin's words about the nuclear threat seriously. Ignoring the statements of the Russian President Merkel considered a bluff.

Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky has spoken out that Russia has no right to store nuclear weapons , but at the same time, the head of his office, Mikhail Podolyak, demanded that the United States launch a nuclear strike on Russia. In the United States, however, they questioned the sanity of the author of these words.
